Dover-Foxcroft, Maine

Frenchboro, Maine was recently featured on Oprah.  Jan and I sailed there in 2006 - our travelogue is here
If you have never been there you are missing some really good lobster and peaceful island time.  To get there take the ferry from Bass Harbor on Mount Desert Island.

"Around Dover-Foxcroft"
by Stephen Rainsford.

Picturesque Sebec Lake is surrounded by the towns of Dover-Foxcroft, Bowerbank, Sebec, and Willimantic. The area's history goes back hundreds of years to the time when Eli Towne walked through the woods and became the first settler. For generations, Dover-Foxcroft has drawn residents and tourists alike, eager to enjoy the lake's scenic beauty.

About the Author

Stephen Rainsford, a local resident, is a member of the Dover-Foxcroft and Sebec Historical Societies. The historic images in Around Dover-Foxcroft show rare views of log drives and steamboats and chronicle the diverse history of the communities around Sebec Lake.

Visit the Bear's House Museum, located in the little log cabin at Greely's Landing just before the boat launch ramp and to the right of the green roller rink building.  There you can see a collection of photos and histories of camps around the lake.  If you would like to add a copy of your own photos and camp history to the collection please contact Tim Merrill at toytow@gmail.com or phone 207-564-2165
