Sailing from Northeast Harbor, Maine to Frenchboro and Return - July 5-9, 2006

Our sailboat: 1973 O'day Mariner 19' Sloop

Probably the boom tent made this trip possible, that and the wooden insert that turned the cockpit into a sleeping area.  At the end of the day it's nice to have room to stretch out.  The cockpit mod is shown at the bottom of this page.

About Frenchboro:

Here is a movie of sailing: Movie 1

This map shows the area we sailed in. Our track was stored in a GPS during our trip and then uploaded to this Google Earth map.

We went by Bass Head lighthouse and heading to Frenchboro.

It took about 5 hours to sail there.

Arrived at Frencboro. We had a lobster dinner at Lunts.

There are about 50 year round residents on this island.

We made it back to Cranberry Island in only about 3-1/2 hours with the wind behind us all the way. Great sail.

Isleford Dock Restaurant. Yum !

This is a wooden insert I made to bridge the space between the cockpit seats. It made a large sleeping area under the boom tent.

It assembles in four pieces.

This boat we saw at Frenchboro happend to travel to Little Cranberry the same day as us and moored next to us.

Day 5 - We tried out our Jiffy Reefing kit while heading back to Northeast Harbor from Little Cranberry. It worked fine.
